Project Detail

China-EU NGO Exchange Fellowship 2013

The EU and China are developing increasingly closer relations to lead the global transformation towards a low-carbon economy. Low-carbon urban development as a solution to climate change is an area for specific cooperation potential between organizations from the EU and China. To develop new partnerships for cooperation on the level of civil society, the China Association for NGO Cooperation (CANGO) and the China Civil Climate Action Network (CCAN), in cooperation with the Rhine Academic Forum, organise the China-EU NGO Exchange Fellowship 2013 on Climate Change & Low-carbon Urban Development. The exchange fellowship is financially supported by
Stiftung Mercator.

Thematic areas of cooperation of the fellowship will focus on climate change and low-carbon cities. In this context the main sectors are sustainable urban transport, energy efficiency in buildings, waste management and finance for low-carbon urban development. The goal of the fellowships is to establish new partnerships or deepen existing cooperation between Chinese and European environmental NGOs/think tanks. Each partnership is expected to develop a joint project for concrete cooperation and prepare joint-fundraising of the two organisations on low-carbon urban development (e.g. development of European-Chinese city partnerships). The arrangement foresees that the fellows work in the respective partner organisation in Europe and China. Note that during the exchange fellows will still be able to do part-time project work for their own organization (e.g. 1-2 days per week).
